About Catholic House accommodations:

 

The Catholic House is open to everyone.  We offer an adults-only (18+) environment with seven two-person guest rooms plus clergy room and a room for the house host couple, each with a private bath and air conditioning. Most guest rooms have two single beds (Room 4 has one queen bed).  Rooms have a tray table, chair, vanity, and wardrobe. Bedding and towels are provided. 

 

The Guest Kitchen on the terrace level is designed for light cooking, with a dorm-size refrigerator and storage cabinet for each guest room. A stove, microwave, toaster, and coffee maker are available, as well as tableware and cooking utensils.

 

There are no televisions or telephones in guest rooms. WIFI is available throughout the house and porches.

 

Because of the demand for limited accommodations available at CH, the Chautauqua Catholic Community uses a carefully administered lottery system to assure equitable opportunities for room arrangements.  Room cancellations are offered to a lottery wait list, after which they are advertised.

 

Catholic House Rules:

 

• You must be able to climb stairs.  The CH is not handicap accessible. 

• No smoking, vaping, or any tobacco use is allowed in any guest room, common rooms/areas, porch, or property.

• No more than two people may share a room.

• Guests must be at least 18 years of age.

• Pets are not permitted.

• Consumption of alcoholic beverages is permitted in CH common areas but no bottles are allowed on the porch or lawn.

• Saturday arrival is between 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm. There is no early access to rooms.

• All guests must vacate CH no later than 9:30 am Saturday morning.

• You must be able to handle your own luggage.

• If you will need to arrive after 5:00 pm on Saturday, please inform the hosts at CH by calling (716) 237-7105.

• If you desire a key to your room, a $50.00 cash deposit is required and refunded upon the return of the key.

• You are responsible for cleaning any mess created in any common areas and replacing any cooking or eating utensils used. 

• There will be a mandatory meeting on Saturday at 6:45 p.m. to review house procedures and answer questions.  You are responsible for house information shared.

• Guests will be liable for any damages in the rooms, common areas, and porch areas.

• Be considerate of our other guests and neighbors and reduce noise levels by 10:00 pm on the porch and in the rooms. Chautauqua Institution requests that after midnight all is quiet.

IMPORTANT DATES FOR CATHOLIC HOUSE LODGING

• October 15 through November 15 each year, applications are available online at www.chautauquacatholics.org

• November 15   Room application deadline

• December 31   All applicants will be notified of lottery results. 

• January 31   Non-refundable deposit of $100.00 due*

• March 15  Final payment of room fee due*

• *NOTE:  Failure to provide timely deposit and/or timely final payment will result in forfeiture of the room reservation. Deadlines will be strictly adhered to.

Check In and Check Out

• Saturday Check-In from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm (no early check in)

• Saturday must vacate house by 9:30 am

 

Applying for a Room:

​

• The 2025 room rate is $750 per week or $875 for Rooms 7 or 8 with direct access to a second-floor porch. 

• All rooms are assigned by Lottery (not first come, first served) for a one-week stay.

• Application is made exclusively online through our website at www.chautauquacatholics.org between October 15 and November 15 each year.

• Please fill out the online application completely and accurately. Incomplete information may result in the application not being accepted.

• Only one (1) application per household or per person per year is accepted. (You may NOT enter the lottery both as a primary applicant AND as a roommate.)

• Applicants who did not stay at Catholic House during the prior year will be given preference.  If additional rooms remain, other applicants will be included in the lottery for remaining rooms.

• The online system will be inactive after November 15.

• All applicants will be notified by email no later than December 15 of their status.

• Rooms may not be re-assigned, substituted, or traded.

• Payment schedule is to be strictly followed.

• You may pay by check or PayPal (3% will be added to the PayPal total). 

• Failure to pay timely will result in cancellation of room and loss of non-refundable $100 deposit.

• Cancellation of your reservation after final payment will result in forfeiture of payment.  If we are able to reassign your room, we will refund payment less a $100 administrative fee.

• A weekly Chautauqua Institution Gate Pass, parking, and food are NOT included in the room rate.  Gate pass and parking can be purchased at chq.org. 

• If you do not receive a room in the lottery, you will be placed on a waiting list and contacted should an opening arise.
